VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Kako'o 'oiwi: Monthly Community Workday
Participate as a volunteer during our monthly community workdays clearing invasive vegetation or building 'auwai for new lo'i kalo, weeding and maintaining existing lo'i kalo, and other activities site-based learning activities. Invite your class, friends and family to experience Hoi through our educational tours and site-based learning activities.

Ka Papa Mala O Punahou
Punahou School hosts community workdays in the garden every third Saturday from 3-5pm behind Griffiths Hall.

Bring water and gloves, though you can always come as you are and you will be set up with work that fits! Families are welcome to join. No experience is necessary to participate.

RSVP to elathrop@punahou.edu to make sure the workday is happening as scheduled.




Student Organic Farm Training (SOFT)

SOFT is a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa who share common interests in growing food sustainably and having fun. Join SOFT every Saturday from 9AM to 5PM (volunteers welcome throughout the day), to help tend the Mauka campus garden at CTAHR's Magoon research facility.

Ka Papa Lo'i 'O Kanewai at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa

First Saturdays (8:15am-12:15pm, RSVP required) are open to UH Mānoa students and to everyone in the community looking for an opportunity to experience traditional farming methods, converse with Hawaiian Language speakers, talk story with practitioners, ku'i 'ai, ku'i ka imu, and enjoy the day with family and friends.

This is also a good opportunity for students with scholarships who need to fulfill community service hours. The lo'i will provide light refreshments and a potluck at the end of the workday for volunteers to enjoy. All are welcome!

Volunteering opportunities for individuals, schools or other groups outside of scheduled workdays can also be arranged.

Ho'oulu 'Aina

Community Wednesdays, 9:30am to 12pm. First Wednesdays of the month are cultural sharing activities and potluck, the rest of the month participants will be engaged in malama 'aina activities. Please RSVP to aina@kkv.net with COMMUNITY WEDNESDAY in the subject line.

Growing Farmers. Each Thursday community members are invited to learn about organic gardening through hands-on activities led by our Mahi 'Aina Coordinator. For this volunteer opportunity we do ask that people who are interested please be committed to coming on a regular basis, learning how to grow food takes time, commitment, passion and an open mind. Please RSVP to aina@kkv.net, with GROWING FARMERS in the subject line.

3rd Saturday Community Workdays, 8:30am to 12pm. Each 3rd Saturday of the month we invite community members to join Ho'oulu 'Aina in malama 'aina activities. Please bring: healthy potluck to share, mess kit, water bottle, 'aina ready clothing. Please carpool, our parking lot is small and will close when we reach capacity. Please RSVP to aina@kkv.net with 3RD SATURDAYS in the subject line.
